The spread of COVID-19, otherwise known as the novel coronavirus, has caught the world’s attention. Healthcare professionals monitoring the situation have many concerns, one of them being their patients’ continued access to medication. Access is key to adherence, and as we’ve reported on The Beat before, adherence to therapy can be the difference between good health outcomes and serious illness.
Older adults and people with compromised immune systems are the most susceptible to COVID-19. They are also the groups that are most likely to struggle with adherence, and the groups that benefit most from prescription delivery. It’s incredibly important that these vulnerable populations continue to get the medications they need, even if they are ill or have been counseled to stay at home to avoid exposure.
A few days ago, one of our national pharmacy partners and a few hospital systems reached out to us. They wanted to ensure we’d be ready for any extreme volume increases and that our system could handle it.
The answer: a resounding yes. Not only have we scaled our prescription delivery solution to 50 states, but we’ve also sourced more couriers nationwide than we currently need. This redundancy will ensure that we are well-equipped to handle any spikes in delivery volume.
In addition, we are taking steps to keep our employees healthy and keep our courier partners safe. As a result, we do not expect any interruption in service at this time.
Most of the patients that we deliver to are over 65 years of age, which makes our service even more important right now. We are boosting medication access and helping with prescription abandonment. It’s exciting to be able to prove that with tangible data. But alongside that, we’re doing our part to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
